Rainy Day
Doo-Wops
Thought I was Gene Kelly listening to this one!! “Singing In The Rain” Maybe a little water logged too!
Good mix of twenty-eight (28) tracks. All having rain or a reference to rain in their titles or the lyrics.
Found this CD very entertaining. One major plus was getting all three versions of “In The Rain” on one CD.
Here are your Rainy Day Doo-Wops. Get your umbrellas! ...

This is a CD I am proud to own and review!!
The PERSONIFICATION of the PERPETUATION of the Classic Vocal Group Harmony sound of the Best Era Ever Put To Vinyl – The 50’s.
The SHEPS fit the above statement to a Tee! They recapture the sound so perfectly! Whether a rocking uptempo or a slow mellow ballad, their leads and background harmonies are right on. No matter which member is on lead, the sou ...

Street Corner Romance
- 24 Doo-Wop Gems -
Seems I have traveled back to 1993 with this CD. Looks like the type the Juke Box Treasures released. Errors in the playlist and unlisted bonus tracks. Hey Wayne!! Did you have anything to do with this one? Maybe you have a protégé out there! LOL
In any event. This CD contains twenty-four (24) Romantic Ballads. Definitely Street Corner Romance. I believe you will thoroughly enjoy the contents of ...

The Hollywood Flames & Friends
1950 - 1965
Well here it is! The CD of controversy. Word online has been panning this CD because of it’s recording quality. Complaints of clipped beginnings and poor quality. Well folks I have listened to this CD at least three times from track 1 through track 27. What is clipped on a few of the tracks might be the first note or so. Nothing that would detract from the material offered.
This CD contains some ...

Silhouettes
"The Complete Package"
Silhouettes!! Yep! The “Get A Job” smash hit from 1957! This group of young men from Philadelphia set the country rockin’ with that tune. Now a Vocal Group Classic.
Unfortunately we never heard much more out of Billy Horton, Earl Beal, Rick Lewis & Raymond Edwards.
Believe me, it wasn’t due to lack of output. The Silhouettes recorded many, many songs for Junior, Ember, 20th Cent and other labels ...

The Gel Caps
"Take Two"
From a little west of Detroit. Entertaining Southern Michigan for the last ten years or so. From the Ann Arbor area of Michigan comes GelCaps.
To be honest with you, I was a little skeptical before receiving this CD. Being accustomed to the Acappella groups of the North East, I guess I was a little prejudiced in my opinion. However, let me tell you, I was more than pleasantly surprised by this fi ...

Heavy On Doo Wop
Vol. 4
Volume four, you ask? Where are volumes 1 thru 3?
Yes, this is the fourth volume of the series. In my opinion volumes 1 thru 3 did not contain enough must have tracks individually to warrant a review. Possibly could have condensed the first three volumes into one SUPER CD. However, that was not the case.
I was pleasantly surprised with volume four as you can tell by this review.
Here on Heavy O ...

The Del Vikings
"The Lost Tapes"
The Lost Tapes?? Beats me what they are referring to. Seems what we have here is the later recording Del Vikings group. Thus CD covers the group after their Mercury & Fee Bee Records years. Here are their endeavors from 1960 – 1964 on Alpine, ABC & Gateway Records.
I know you all remember their big ones. Come Go With Me & Whispering Bells from the mid 50’s. Well their sound has changed from that ...

Anne Cole
"In The Chapel"
Ann Cole! A New York City recording artist that you hardly, if ever hear of. A shame too. This Diva of Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll should be a household name for those of you that love the sounds of the 50’s. Other than her 1962 release on Roulette “Have Fun” and her “Are You Satisfied” on Baton in ’55, I doubt any others will be familiar to you.
Well I’m here to tell you, you are in for a ver ...

James Hunter
"Kick It Around"
Hi All!
I am guessing that by now you know that it takes a very, very special CD to rate being reviewed by me. Average maybe, one in every 20 is reviewed.
Well here is one that literally knocked my socks off when I played it.
James Hunter a young German National has captured the essence of the 50’s & early 60’s Rock and Rhythm & Blues. One sensational track followed by another.

In any event there is a good mix of vocal group sounds here. I’m sure you’ll find them enj ...

The Aquatones
"40 Years Later"
The year was 1958! On your radio a beautiful soprano voice sings “Darling I’m Lonely”. That line was the opening to the Aquatones’ “You”. From 1958 thru early in 1961 these kids recorded for Fargo Records. Their “You” has become a Doo Wop Vocal ...
